Recognition at Gala

Baby Bear Hugs Executive Director Receives Recognition

Ruth Seedorf, Regional Executive Director of the Baby Bear Hugs Home Visitation Program, received special recognition at the 10th anniversary celebration recently held in Yuma , CO .  Morgan County Coordinator, Carolyn Vickers, on behalf of all the Baby Bear Hugs staff, presented Ruth with a beautiful “picture likeness” of the handmade quilt, which was one if the raffle prizes.  Ruth also received a very large bear shaped card, signed by everyone attending the gala.  The guests responded with a standing ovation. Ruth was surprised and delighted with such an outpouring of appreciation.

Ruth has been involved with Baby Bear Hugs for 16 years, beginning as Yuma County Coordinator and worked to expand the successful county program into a 9 county regional program through a Federal Child Welfare Enhancement Grant.  In 1995 Baby Bear Hugs became a non-profit organization and Ruth was hired as Executive Director.  Ruth received her degree in Child Development and Family Relationships from Colorado State University .  She has worked as a well-child screener through the Northeast Colorado Health Department.  Currently Ruth is pursuing her Masters of Nonprofit Management Degree. Together she and her husband have raised two wonderful children and has just recently become a first time grandparent.  Some of her community activities include having served on the West Yuma School Board, participating on the Child Protection Team and being involved in the Search for Solutions Community Action Team. Statewide involvements have included Healthy Families Colorado, serving on the advisory committee for Home Visitation 2000, and serving on the Advisory Board for Colorado Family Resource Network.

The highly anticipated raffle drawing completed the day’s festivities.  Stacy Ricker of Washington County won the Rockies Tickets. Becky Meyer, also from Washington County , was the lucky winner of the quilt.  The adorable handmade quilt made by Andrea Hendon, former para-professional with Baby Bear Hugs.  In keeping with the theme of Baby Bear Hugs it was adorned with bears.  Each county had a square with bears representing something special or unique to their county and in the center of the quilt was a family of bears.
