| The Car Seat program is available in Phillips and Yuma Counties at this point in time. Because child safety is important to us, plans are being made in several other counties to provide this service. Car Seat ProgramChildren ARE Breakable!! In normal, everyday wear and tear, children hold up very nicely. But not in a car that stops suddenly or crashes. Many people do not realize how dangerous it is to ride unprotected in an automobile. Imagine a car traveling just 30 MPH. The passengers are traveling at that speed, too. The car stops suddenly, but the passengers keep moving until they hit whatever is in front of them with the force of a fall from a 3 story building! Children sitting on an adult's lap are often injured by the force of the adult's weight. The most common cause of death and injury to children in automobile crashes are:
IT'S THE LAW! All children newborn to 16 years old are required by law to be in a safety restraint.
Car Seat Rental InformationTo provide your children with the necessary and required safety, you may rent a child safety seat from Baby Bear Hugs through the Yuma Loan-a-Seat program and the car seat program in Phillips County. The rental agreement includes:
Four out of five car seats are used incorrectly...be sure your is not one of them! Seats available include:
For the convenience of grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and caretakers, arrangements may be made for short term rental.
About the Yuma Loan-A-Seat ProgramIn 1983 the Yuma Young Mothers Club decided that there was an important need in the community for a car seat "loaner" program. The Mothers Club incorporated and named the program. They sought support from local businesses and organizations to purchase the child safety seats. The program was run from their homes until 1990. Baby Bear Hugs, the parent-to-parent program that provides support to families with children 0 - 3 years of age, seemed a logical place for the loaner program to grow with. In 1990, Yuma Loan-A-Seat became a program of Yuma County Baby Bear Hugs. It continues to be supported by the local community and the generous support received by the local businesses and organizations is why this program continues to exist.
DonationsYuma Loan-A-Seat program will gratefully accept cash donations to support the program. These donations may be made through the Regional Baby Bear Hugs office. Please indicate Yuma Loan-A-Seat on the donation. Unfortunately, we cannot accept used car seats because of insurance.
