Nurturing Parent Program

 

This is an evidence based parenting curriculum involving both the parents and the children.  Due to the resources and time commitment necessary it is limited to a certain number of families.

 

 

Nurturing Parent Classes

 

Nurturing Parent classes are a very intense, 16 week program involving both parents and their children in classes, activities, and usually an evening meal.  Because of the number of staff needed, the length of the classes, and the cost of the program, Baby Bear Hugs has elected to hold 2 classes per year, rotating among the counties we serve.

 

Topics for the Nurturing Parent classes are as follows:

 

Week 1:  Orientation and Assessment, Pre AAPI

 

Week 2:  Nurturing as a Lifestyle and Brain Development

 

Week 3:  Nurturing Parenting Expectations and Development

 

Week 4:  Ages and Stages: Your child’s Development

 

Week 5:  Developing Empathy.  Parents and Children’s Needs

 

Week 6:  Recognizing and Understanding Feelings

 

Week 7:  Spoiling Children.  Improving Children’s Self-worth and Building Personal Power

 

Week 8:  Understanding Discipline

 

Week 9:  Developing Family Morals, Values, and Rules

 

Week 10: Rewarding and Punishing Children’s Behaviors

 

Week 11: Praising Children and Their Behavior and Time-Out

 

Week 12: Establishing Nurturing Parent Routines, Nurturing Feeding Routine, Nutrition and Meal time, Nurturing Bath Time,

               Nurturing Bedtime, Touch and Personal Space

 

Week 13: Handling Stress and Managing Behavior

 

Week 14: Expressing Anger, Criticism, and Confrontation

 

Week 15: Ignoring and Toilet Training

 

Week 16:  Hopes and Fears and Assessing Parenting Strengths, AAPI and “Graduation”
